PAX East Recap

Last weekend we joined PAX East with three of our amazing titles GRIME, Everafter Falls, and Sorry We’re Closed! If you visited our booth, we hoped you enjoyed the demos, the news, and laughs. Thank you for checking us out! If you missed out on PAX East, the team is going to highlight some of the events that happened there. First, starting with Fae, our social media manager.

Fae: Social media manager

For PAX East 2024, we brought a total of 4 Akupara team members to booth, network and enjoy tantalizing upcoming games in Boston! And this year, we wanted to make sure we had a bunch of short-form video memories to share on TikTok, Twitter and more…which means you get to see cool BTS videos from our social media manager Fae, like this one. From the jetbridge, to picking up our PAX East Exhibitor badges to attempting, earnestly, to hang up the Akupara banner with hooks, every step was only the beginning to a long, long weekend.

As a Los Angeles-based company, every convention we booth at requires at least 1 team member to fly out from LA with the “big goods” including our portable mini PCs, the NUCs, and peripherals. This year, our banner was completely new! So we were able to ship it to Boston straight from the factory. But don’t worry – after our eventful team effort in packing up the banner on Sunday, it’s going to have to be lugged from LA in the future as well. Here are a few of our team’s favorite moments from PAX East 2024.

As the social media manager here at Akupara Games, I was given a bit of a hybrid role during PAX 2024. While I loved manning the booth, I was also able to step away to…grab Jimmy Johns for the team (lol!) but also, to meet and collaborate with other booths, developers and publishers in the space! Here are a few of my favorites.

Toge Productions

I met Lala, the social media manager at Toge Productions at PAX East 2023! This year, the Toge booth was actually located right behind our Akupara booth, which was super convenient for our mid-day commiserations over our tired feet and fading energy. We may, or may not, have spent some time exchanging boba tea and donuts, as well.

Toge Productions had a bunch of titles on display and playable demos for Paxgoers. I asked Lala to highlight one of her favorites in this short interview! Whisper Mountain Outbreak is an upcoming 2.5D PVE horror full of zombies and thin opportunities for survival. Fight, explore, solve puzzles, and figure out a way to escape. Wishlist it here!

Buddy: Marketing Lead

The eyesore in the Sorry We’re Closed demo is the hardest boss I’ve ever seen on the floor. Like a dozen people ran into this issue where they couldn’t figure out how to damage it so they wandered around for 10+ minutes just trying their best to figure out what’s up with this thing. But I’m also a sadist so I never actually helped them, I just waited for them to have that “aha!” moment and figure it out.

With the team recapping their experiences at PAX East, I want to talk about the games we went with at the event!

GRIME

GRIME is a souls-like, metroidvania, platformer with a dim and disconsolate environment with enemy mutations of arms made of daggers, tails that are like maces, and more with the primary goal of killing the player.

Check out GRIME on Steam!

Everafter Falls

Everafter Falls is a lifestyle farming sim where you farm, fish, and forage a huge collection of items to make the most efficient yet cozy farm. Features split-screen coop, a pet with useful skills, automated drones, resource-harvesting pixies, a card-eating progression system, and dangerous dungeons to explore!

Sorry We’re Closed

Last but not least, the game that Buddy watched innocent players play and get stuck but couldn’t be bothered to help them is Sorry We’re Closed.

Sorry We’re Closed is a nostalgic, single-player survival horror game where you follow the final days of Michelle who tries to break a curse placed on her by a powerful demon. Enjoy atmospheric environments driven by classic, fixed camera angles and the thrill of arcade-style, first person combat.
