Rain World Community Joins r/Place

April Fool’s came a little late for Reddit this year, with the return of their r/place event clocking in a cool four months after their intended start date. On r/Place, anyone can add a colored pixel to a huge canvas every 5 minutes, which means anyone looking to accomplish anything on the platform needs to band together with a community in order to make their mark. Hundreds of people from the Rain World community worked together to complete many art pieces on the canvas. This can cause a lot of chaos as many groups fight to take control of a small section of a limited-size canvas and draw– one pixel at a time. At any time, a group of people can come in and overwrite artwork from smaller communities, so even when art is finished, it needs to be defended it by replacing pixels that others may draw on over.

Hundreds of Rain World enjoyers got together and drew a few fan art pieces within the chaos and I want to share a few of those art pieces in this blog.

If you want to watch how the r/Place canvas evolved and changed over the week it was live, then check out the canvas history here! Can you spot all the Rain World pieces hidden amongst the giants?

Survivor + Slugcat and Iterator Beans

This one is the oldest surviving piece from the Rain World community in r/Place. What started as just the survivor  expanded to include a danglefruit, squidcada, vulture mask, karma flower, and explosive spear. Believe it or not– the question of adding or removing blush from the slugcat was a topic of fierce debate. Just below, the other slugcats and iterators were added as beans!

5 Pebbles and Moon with 5 Slugcats

Even when drawn, Five Pebbles can’t escape the slugcats! Both of these were created in different sectionsof the canvas! Smaller communities, much like the tenacious slugcat, often find success on r/place by populating little nooks and crannies between the behemoths with simpler art.

Iterators + Slugcat

Similar to Moon and Pebbles art, these iterators from the game were drawn with a single slugcat tied to them. The community wanted to make sure that there was a variety of iterators spread throughout the map, with spearmaster, hunter and saint having a good time riding on their head.

Rain World, Dead Cells, and Bug Fables

This was a collaboration between the Bug Fables, Dead Cells, and Rain World! The different communities got together to communicate plans and protect the piece from invaders and it only felt right to add a little lizard representation onto the canvas.

The Indie Alliance

The Rain World community participated in the Indie Alliance. This was a collection of many indie communities working together on this piece. This one is personally my favorite out of all of them. Do you recognize all the indie games?

We are so proud of the Rain World community for coming together to create all these pieces and thanks to the other indie game communities for coordinating with our community to design and protect these amazing pieces of art. If you would like to join the Rain World communities to check their artistic talents, join the Rain World Discord and r/rainworld Reddit.
