See ya 2022!
2022 has been a very busy and full year! We wanted to take a review the year and highlight our accomplishments through the year. I want to take the time to thank our fans for being amazing and supporting us to make this year such a success!
Publishing Announcements
It was a big year for our publishing announcements at Akupara Games! We have so many projects in the works to share with you, but let’s start with the ones you can brag to your friends and family about (as we’ve announced that we’re publishing these, publicly!)
Zoeti – Our roguelike deck builder that utilizes well-known card pairings to conquer your foes, made by Dusklight Games. With seemingly endless ability customization, truly test your min-max style while encountering intelligent foes and stunning fighting locales.
Astrea: Six Sided Oracles – Our all new dice-deckbuilding roguelike, made by Little Leo Games. Use dice purify your enemies who seek to corrupt a dying star goddess. Astrea boasts stunning graphics alongside intuitive gameplay in a genre that’s tried and true.
Sorry We’re Closed – A single player survival horror adventure oozing with personality and unforgettable characters and featuring claustrophobic, tense action, mind-bending puzzles, and multiple endings, made by à la mode.
Cryptmaster– In Cryptmaster from Paul Hart and Lee Williams, you’ll explore a dungeon-crawling narrative experience that will leave you scratching your head to unravel the mystery and solve the puzzles the Cryptmaster places before you. Control a part of four recently raised undead and learn more about their harrowing situation as the story unfolds…
New Launches, Catalogue Additions, and Content Updates!
Absolute Tactics – A strategic turn-based tactical RPG featuring sprawling battles, quests, class-based attacks and abilities made by Curious Fate: Absolute Tactics has plenty to offer in several categories. We released this game in September of 2022 to PC, Switch and PlayStation.
Kardboard Kings – Our management card shop simulator game that takes place in Parakeet Bay, made by Henry’s House. We launched Kardboard Kings in February of 2022, and we’ve now brought this product to Switch while introducing Card Game Island. This update came out in early December, so go dip your toes in the water, and be sure to grab your sunscreen. Enjoy battling familiar faces you’ve learned to love (or hate…) through your Kardboard Kings journey.
Rain World – Survival meets platformer meets unforgiving, made by VIDEOCULT. We announced we’d be taking over as the publisher of this game on March 28th of 2022. If you’re looking for a challenge in our catalog, look no further than Rain World. With an unforgiving ecosystem and a style you can spot from a mile away… giving Rain World a home with us was an easy choice.
Rain World: Downpour – As part of The MIX Publisher Showcase in October, we announced the release date of the DLC content update to Rain World: Downpour, which we released last week in January 2023. As Rain World has had a dedicated community of fans for the last 5 years, we’re excited to introduce this DLC that includes even more engaging content and features for the player base to adventure with.
Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery – Our Ghibli-inspired cozy-narrative game, created by Silver Lining Studios, received the “Jack” end-game content update and was brought to first party console platforms (Switch, Xbox and PlayStation) on June 2nd of 2022.
The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark – We rolled out the final case updates for The Darkside Detective in 2022. The Darkside fanbase has always been close to our hearts, and it was bittersweet to close out this series. We want to express our love to everyone: Players, streamers, content creators, all enjoyers of the Darkside Detective universe.
Mutazione – We delivered the final content update for Mutazione. As one of our most decorated titles, it was bittersweet to close this chapter of our catalog. We’ll continue to look for opportunities that are exciting and innovative for this product! Mutazione continues to have dedicated fans and enjoyers around the world, and we look forward to sharing those memories with those who have them, and those who will continue to create more in the future.
In-Person Events
GDC and IGF Award
Date: March 22 – 25th, 2022
Project: Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery
Behind the Frame was nominated for Excellence in Visual Art at the 2023 IGF Game Awards. Because of this, the project had its own solo booth in the IGDF section, where all the nominees gathered and boothed together, at the GDC 2022 showfloor. While we didn’t take home the Winning award, it was an absolute honor to be presented alongside other artistically genius pieces in the game development space.
Gamescom
Date: August 23 – 28th, 2022
Project(s): Astrea: Six Sided Oracles & Rain World: Downpour
Astrea and Rain World: Downpour were able to showcase their products at the 2022 Gamescom convention! As one of the largest conventions internationally, we loved bringing these games to fans at this event.
10th Annual Day of The Devs
Date: November 5th, 2022
Project(s): Astrea: Six Sided Oracles, Rain World: Downpour, Cryptmaster
As the 10th event, it was an absolute pleasure to showcase Astrea, Rain World:Downpour and Cryptmaster. Reception was incredible from players to professionals across the board. Day of the Devs is a free event hosted each year. There’s only a finite amount of booths available, so we were honored to to showcase 3 of our projects there.
LA Comic Con
Date: December 2 – 4th, 2022
Project(s): Astrea: Six Sided Oracles, GRIME, Zoeti, Cryptmaster
LA Comic Con was a treat to showcase at. The Akupara Team showed up and delivered four projects to showcase on the floor for those two days. The player and fan reception was phenomenal, and we look forward to working with The MIX again when that time comes!
While we closed the chapter on a few well known and beloved projects in 2022, the upcoming years are looking incredibly exciting, and we can’t wait to share more with you when that time comes. Here’s to 2023! Stay in touch on whichever platform you prefer.
