When did you first get started in games and how?

Been playing games since I was 5-6 years old. I have fond memories of playing Mega Man 4 so much that I burned my NES’s AC adapter.

How did you first get started in the game industry?

I got my start freelancing as a video editor for YouTube content creators, and eventually branched out into game trailers. My very first one was a DLC announcement feature for A Hat in Time!

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Mainly from other editors, both in YouTube and in video games, but I also draw a lot of inspiration from movies and television. Edgar Wright makes some of my favorite movies, mainly due to the way his movies editing style brings so much personality to them.

What is your favorite video game or series?

Probably a solid tie between Shovel Knight and Mega Man, I’m a big fan of blue little guys running to the right. I am also a huge fan of the Mega Man Battle Network series specifically!

Console vs PC?

Whenever I can, I play on Console. I love playing games on my PC, but I already sit at a computer desk for 40 hours a week, so having a game to play on my console in the comfort of my living room is preferable!

What is your favorite tabletop game?

Betrayal at House on the Hill, and pen and paper role playing games like DND

What is one piece of advice you could give someone who wants to get into the gaming industry?

While it’s important to be passionate about the work you do, it’s just as vital to separate your work from your everyday life. This includes having a hobby that’s completely separate to video games. Having life experiences outside of your main career enriches your life, and in doing so can improve the games you work on! (The idea of Pikmin first came to Shigeru Miyamoto because he started gardening to pass the time!) For example, I love to do photography and cooking on the side as a hobby.

If Akupara could partner with any person, who would you want to work with?

Lucas Pope makes some absolutely fantastic games, Return of the Obra Dinn being also one of my favorites. I would love to work on a project he is involved with!

What is your proudest accomplishment with Akupara?

I may have started just at the beginning of this month, but as my first in-house video editor position, just joining a talented team working on amazing games already feels like an amazing accomplishment. I could go into more specifics about what I’m working on, but you’ll find out more during our publisher showcase during The Mix Next on October 27th!

Do you have pets?

I do! I have a black cat named Xena, and she’s a perfect balance between a soft cloud of sweetness and a gremlin.
