Miguel after interviewing Platinum Games’ Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba

When did you first get started in games and how?
My mom and dad and a bunch of my family always played video games, so I grew up with them kind of from the get go. I had a hand-me-down Game Boy Color and N64, then I asked for an original Xbox one Christmas, and from there I was gaming alllll the time.

How did you first get started in the game industry?
In my first year of highschool, I applied to write video game reviews on a Twitter friend’s gaming blog on a whim. Later that year, I found a love for voice acting. I stuck with both of those hobbies for years, and by the end of highschool I had roles in a few different indie games. By the middle of college, I had even more video game voice acting roles and started writing at legit video game news outlets, and from there I was getting deeper and deeper into the industry each year!

Where do you draw inspiration from?
I’m inspired a lot by people who don’t get bogged down in artificial professionalism or abiding by all of the strict upper-crust rules of whatever industry they’re in, and just make fun and silly and raw content purely because they want to. I also get inspired by people who have their hands in a bunch of different fields and skillsets and manage to do cool stuff in all of them. Frog Detective creator Grace Bruxner, writer and voice actor Ashly Burch, comic writer Chip Zdarsky, and professional weirdo Casey Frey are some of my biggest inspirations.

What is your favorite video game or series?
I love a lot of different games and series for different reasons, and my tastes and favorites always change a bit each year. Halo 3 is the game I spent the most time meeting and talking to people in, Animal Crossing is the series I’m most likely to spend hundreds of hours playing, Frog Detective is my favorite short weird cute indie game, and Gravity Rush 2 is just a really really really amazing video game that I love a lot.

What is your favorite tabletop game?
I barely ever play tabletops or board games, but there’s a social deceit card game called Coup that I love to play with friends.

If Akupara could partner with any person, who would you want to work with?
Grace Bruxner!!!

What is your proudest accomplishment with Akupara?
I’m still relatively new to the world of Social Media management, so every time I hear that someone has praised my work or loved the stuff on the Akupara Twitter and Tiktok, it makes me feel really accomplished and happy with where I’m at.
