The Mutazione Soundtrack is Now Live!

Since release, we’ve heard one request from fans over and over. Release the soundtrack! Today, the wait ends! On Steam and Bandcamp, you can purchase the full soundtrack to Mutazione for $9.99. This includes the background music for each day collected into long, flowing suites, specific songs for story moments like Swamp Island or Band Night, and a slew of songs sprinkled throughout the game to help immerse you in the community of mutants we all know and love!

The Mutazione OST is composed and almost entirely performed by Alessandro Coronas, recorded in and around his sea-side home in southern Sardinia. The OST is comprised of 36 tracks, producing an extensive 4+ hour deep dive into the audio landscape of the mutant soap opera Mutazione, focusing on the original music composed to accompany the story of Die Gute Fabrik’s wonderful world of mutated plants and wildlife.

Coronas has built a musical environment with varied references, from 1960’s ‘tropical’ influences; such as surf guitar, ultra dry bass, spring reverbs, vintage keyboards, and lo-fi recording techniques; to much more diverse genres that mirror the emotional and physical journeys of the characters of Mutazione; jazz, DIY punk, lonely folk guitars and spooky horror movies.

The length of the work is reflective of the depth of the musical influences and careful choices made by Coronas in collaborating on Mutazione during the 10 years it was in development; from first sketches in 2009, a prototype phase in 2012, all the way to the production spanning 2015-19.

Well-known influences include Italian 60’s pop songs, Boards of Canada, Sam Prekop, Jim O’ Rourke, DIY punk, Riot Grrl, the soundtracks of Akira and Monkey Island, Mark Kozelek, Sonic Youth, Nils Frahm and Dušan Bogdanović.

Process has been as important as product for Coronas, and as well as being heavily influenced by nature, he has used ‘real’ instruments wherever possible. All recordings are done live, preserving imperfections, lo-fi aesthetics, and idiosyncrasies, to reflect the more ‘down to earth’ attitude of the community of Mutazione.

We hope you enjoy this aural landscape, either as enticement to investigate the world for the first time, or as a return trip, sinking back into the relaxed, compelling community of Mutazione. If you’d like to share your favorite tracks with us or the team, make sure you follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. We’d love to hear from you.
