The Ensemble of Mutazione: Part Three

The Older Generation

Welcome back to the Ensemble of Mutazione series! Over the last two weeks, we’ve covered both the young and middle-aged members of the community, and this week our focus shifts to the older! Nonno, Mori, Yoké and Graubert guide the community with what they’ve learned over their time living in Mutazione. With the longest history on the island, they have experienced first hand many of the troublesome periods in Mutazione’s past, and will have quite a few secrets to share with you as you play!

Nonno

Arriving on the island a scientifically-minded researcher, Nonno quickly turned to a more nature-centred practiced, encouraged by the spiritual leader Manii. When she died in a terrible accident, Nonno took it upon himself to care for the community and the environment around it. That is, until he fells gradually into a terrible illness, which has almost totally consumed him at the beginning of the game. When Kai arrives on the island, she finds Nonno bed-ridden, hardly able to move or eat without assistance. Despite his stubborn nature, he gladly accepts help from Mori, one of his closest friends on the island.

Mori

Mori is the town gossip and an incredible cook. She’s the oldest of 3 generations of her family in the community – being both Claire’s mother and Tung’s grandmother. She works closely with nature, maintaining her own garden beneath the restaurant (check the back door if you want to head down and visit her) and spends most of her time in and around the Stir Fry, cooking up something delicious for anyone who needs a hot meal. She’s always ready to serve it with a side of hot gossip, too, and to try and winkle new secrets and goings on from anyone who passes through….

Yoké

Yoké is a sweet, old fellow  who spends much of his time in the Archive just outside town. He’s the oldest person in the community, and after being injured in a terrible incident a few years prior, tends to move around in a wheelchair. Yoké loves a good book, endeavours to practice the harpsichord, and (before he fell ill) used to enjoy playing a good game of chess against his best friend Nonno. The Archive holds much of the town’s most important knowledge, to which Yoké tends. Kai receives plenty of help from Yoké when she wants to learn about the flora of Mutazione or some of the older secrets about the community and their collective past.

Graubert

While Graub is only a little bit older than Spike and Dennis, he has an old soul, ‘old as the sea’, as he might say. With his scraggly beard and gruff manners, it might be hard to imagine that the most important thing to Graubert is his love for Ailin and their growing family, but it’s there in his heart, right alongside his love for the ocean. The boisterous ferry captain is Mutazione’s sole link to the mainland and he spends quite a bit of time away from everyone taking supplies to and from the community. Perhaps this is because he sees a future for himself and Ailin back on the mainland, white picket fence, and all. Graubert doesn’t keep much close to his chest, especially when he has a bit of rum in him, so he’s easy to read, and easy to get to know (whether you want to, or not!).
