When did you first get started in games and how?
When I was six there was a crazy flood and only me and one other kid made it to school. They just kinda let us draw all day. The other kid was drawing something awesome and I asked what it was – he said it was Sonic The Hedgehog and told me all about it. I went over to his house some weekend after that and he showed me all his video games and I was absolutely amazed. We hung out most weekends and played Sega, hated on Nintendo, drew Sonic levels and Sonic characters. Shout-out to Adam! Thanks for starting me on this path!

How did you first get started in the game industry?
I was majoring in recording arts and I found out my college had a game design major. I found them and asked if I could do sounds for their game. After college some of the people I did student games with went on to make games professionally and asked me to do their sound

Where do you draw inspiration from?
Jamming with my friends is the biggest thing. It puts pressure on you to make music in the moment and I can bring that back to the computer when I’m making sound or music. Also seeing all the new and innovative ways people are using sound in other indie games is huge.

What is your favorite video game or series?
Favorite game is Minecraft, favorite series is classic Sonic, and I include Sonic Mania in that

What is your favorite tabletop game?
The Dune board game. It’s hella rare and out of print. It came out in the late 70’s and it’s waaaay ahead of it’s time, it’s very diplomacy heavy. I’ve only seen it in real life once but my friend built a re-creation of it with original graphic design and everything.

If Akupara could partner with any person, who would you want to work with?
GAME GRUMPS

What is your proudest accomplishment with Akupara?
Hnnng I wish I could talk about what we’re making now! I’ll just go with Whispering Willows. Getting to make all the ethereal sounds for a game that’s driven by immersion and ambiance really pushed me to get better at my craft
